CRICKET
The Urmston Cricket Ground is the premier cricket playing facility in the area. As a testament to the standard, Lancashire CCC use the ground for some of their academy and occasional 2nd XI matches.
We have two outfields and extensive outdoor practice net facilities.
Coaching
Senior summer practice and coaching takes place at the club on Thursday evenings at 6pm.
Junior training takes place at the Club every Friday evening from April to September (6pm to 7.30pm)
We have qualified coaches for all age groups and one to one sessions are also available for an extra fee.
We run Winter practice and coaching sessions for both juniors and seniors after Christmas and in the lead-up to the new season.
Our teams
We run three senior teams who play on a Saturday and further one that plays on a Sunday.
The senior teams play in the Cheshire County Cricket League, which is the highest standard of cricket in the county, while all standards are catered for with our 3rd and Sunday XIs. Over 40's players are catered for with our Urmston Tigers team who play 20 over games on Wednesday evening.
This year, we're running junior teams at U9s (2 teams), U11’s, U13’s and U14’s. We also run junior girls teams at Under 11, 13 and 15.
In addition, we run an 8-week All Stars cricket programme on Friday evenings during the season as an introduction to the game for 5 to 8 year olds. You can register your child for this programme here:: https://ecb.clubspark.uk/AllStars/At/urmston
Juniors
Over the past three years we have been rebuilding the junior section at the club with an emphasis on working with the younger age groups through our All Stars and Under 9's programmes.
We have made real progress both on and off the pitch and are now seeing significant increase in numbers joining the club and an increase in quality as our coaching takes effect.
This has been reflected on the pitch seeing our teams improve and individual players getting selected at District and County levels.
Off the pitch, we have seen new volunteers coming on board, ClubMark accreditation being renewed and massive improvements to our coaching equipment and coaching experience.
Both Lancashire and England cricketer Matthew Parkinson and his brother Callum who plays at Leicestershire played much of their junior cricket at Urmston. They both continue to have strong links with the club and we watch their own cricketing development with great pride.
Social events
The club runs numerous internal and external events during the year.
The cricket section's major fund-raiser is the annual sportsman's dinner in March. We also organise an annual Trios competition over the August Bank Holiday, when we welcome a challenge from teams from the other sporting sections within the club.
The club celebrated its' 175th anniversary in 2021 and we look forward to many more years of community sport at the ground.
