Back in the Chair: Urmston's Week from Monday to Sunday

It has been a couple of weeks since the last round-up landed on this page, and that is down to me, not the club. I have been away on annual leave. Urmston, of course, did not pause for anyone. So it is very good to be back at the keyboard, catching up on a week that took in nine matches across the club, home and away, junior and senior.

Here is how it went, day by day.

Monday 27 July - Under 15s (Home) Urmston's Under 15s beat Whalley Range CC Under 15 Eagles by 9 wickets. Whalley Range were bowled out for 91. Urmston reached 95-1.

Tuesday 28 July - 2nd XI (Home) Marple CC 2nd XI beat Urmston's 2nd XI by 93 runs. Marple posted 166-7. Urmston were bowled out for 73.

Wednesday 29 July - Over 40s (Home) Urmston's Over 40s beat Bowdon CC Over 40s by 36 runs. Urmston made 159-3. Bowdon replied with 123-5.

Thursday 30 July - Under 11s (Away at North East Cheshire) Urmston's Under 11s beat North East Cheshire CC Under 11 Hurricanes by 61 runs. Urmston scored 156-4. North East Cheshire were bowled out for 95.

Thursday 30 July - Under 18s (Home) Stretford CC Under 18s beat Urmston's Under 18s by 16 runs. Stretford made 150-7. Urmston finished on 134-8.

Friday 31 July - Under 13s (Home) Urmston's Under 13s beat Ashton-on-Mersey CC Under 13s by 4 runs. Urmston posted 147-4. Ashton-on-Mersey finished on 143-4 against a revised target of 148 from 20 overs.

Saturday 1 August - 3rd XI (Away at North East Cheshire) Urmston's 3rd XI beat North East Cheshire CC 3rd XI by 184 runs. Urmston made 292-5. North East Cheshire were bowled out for 108.

Saturday 1 August - 1st XI (Home) Alvanley CC 1st XI beat Urmston's 1st XI by 10 wickets. Urmston were bowled out for 129. Alvanley reached their target for the loss of no wickets.

Saturday 1 August - 2nd XI (Away at Oakmere) Urmston's 2nd XI beat Oakmere CC 2nd XI by 40 runs. Urmston were bowled out for 213. Oakmere were bowled out for 173.

The 4th XI did not have a fixture this week. A team has dropped out of the league this season, and that has left a gap in the 4th XI's calendar for now.

Sunday 2 August - Sunday 5th XI (Home) Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge CC 3rd XI beat Urmston's Sunday 5th XI by 21 runs. Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge made 182. Urmston finished on 161-9.

Highlights of the Week

Before I get to talking about the Sunday 5th XI, I thought I would mention the Saturday 3rd XI performance. As you have read, the team beat North East Cheshire by 184 runs, but the story here if about Captain Pyush Anand who smashed a century of 100 runs, with a terrific strike rate of 163.93 (Jos Butler, some tips could be learnt here, just saying....). I'm really please to see Pyush achieve this, he has been close a couple of times this season, and been "in the zone" for only the Manchester rain to kill the mood.

Now, where do I start with the ever smiling, and all round pleasant chap Nadal Shinod?! His father is a regular scorer and supporter of the team, however this weekend he had even more reasons to smile from ear to ear. For those following along on Sunday, Urmston actually lost their game to Cheadle Hulm Ladybridge, but the story will forever be etched into the mind of the Urmstonian, that on this day, Nadal took 7 wickets, in 10 overs with an economy of 3.9 (as a SPINNER!). I'm super please for Nadal, as he had missed matches due to a hand injury, but had still been at the club, cheering his mates on, and being an all round lovely chap. Kudos to George Stead and Rhian Mantel for their efforts catching and stumping for Nadal. I'm only sad I wasn't there in person to watch it, otherwise I would have been giddily been making a lot of noise in support, and would have probably embarresed the team. Well done Nadal, great effort. Sometimes a win comes even in a loss.
