Under 13s open the weekend with a battling win

Urmston's Under 13s got the weekend going on Friday night with a 17-run win away at Bowdon Vale. Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Urmston posted 115-5 from their 20 overs. Mustafa Raza retired not out for 31, with useful contributions throughout the order from Zayn Omair Alam (21), Joe Shannon (20), Jai Sarvesh and Stalin Anbarasan (10).

Bowdon Vale were held to 98-3 in reply as Urmston's bowlers kept things tight across the 20 overs.

A solid start to the weekend for the club's youngest side

Third XI edge a thriller against Holmes Chapel

Saturday brought a nervy finish for the Third XI, who won by 9 runs at home to Holmes Chapel CC 2nd XI after posting 167 all out on a tricky pitch. Jack Shepherd top-scored with a fine 38, and captain Piyush Anand pointed to a crucial partnership between Vignesh Parameswari and Aryan Saha as the innings that dug the side in to a respectable total.

Holmes Chapel made a flying start in reply, reportedly reaching around 85 without loss inside 20 overs, and looked to be cruising. Jake McGinlay set the tone with tight bowling to build the pressure, and an injured Karthik Nadimpalli came on to strike the vital first breakthrough right after drinks. From there Vignesh Parameswari and Solomon Hussain simply tore through the middle order, both finishing with 4 wickets. Sunny Ghosh chipped in with a match-winning direct hit run out, and Omair Mohammed was outstanding behind the stumps, saving what the captain reckoned was 20 crucial runs.Captain Piyush Anand summed it up afterwards, saying the win showed exactly why you never give up on a game, even when the odds look slim. Every single player contributed to what he called a proper, relentless team effort, and two catches in the field from Piyush Anand himself backed up his words.

Second XI cruise to a big win over Ashton-on-Mersey

The Second XI made light work of Ashton-on-Mersey 2nd XI, winning by 157 runs after posting 264-5 from their 50 overs. Ishaan Devaramani anchored the innings superbly, finishing unbeaten on 63, with Bilaal Hanif (59) and Bivan Saha (27) also among the runs.

In reply, Ashton-on-Mersey were bowled out for 107, with Craig Wilson among the wickets and Ishaan Devaramani outstanding in the field with three catches, adding to further catches from Ashaun Sibi and Richard Partington. A dominant all-round performance.

First XI narrowly beaten by Stockport Georgians

The First XI's afternoon was defined by a superb century from Stockport Georgians' Francis Yates, who finished unbeaten on 118 as the visitors posted 251-5. Umar Munawar answered in style with 92 in Urmston's reply, well supported by Irfan Naseri's 30, but the chase fell 27 runs short as Urmston were bowled out for 224.

Istiqlal Hanif and Umar Munawar were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets apiece, and George Holmes took two good catches in the field.

Sunday 5th XI beaten by Stockport

The Sunday 5th XI's day began with a difficult batting effort, all out for 52 after choosing to bat first. Rian Mandal was the standout with 20. Stockport CC 3rd XI knocked off the runs comfortably, winning by 7 wickets, though Urmston's bowlers picked up early breakthroughs with Joshua Vas, Ebrahim Fulat and Amir Raza all taking a wicket apiece. Amir Raza and David Stubbs each took a catch in the field. Tom Pratt with a great 20!

Fourth XI complete a big weekend for the club with a 58-run win

The Fourth XI rounded out a strong weekend for Urmston with a 58-run win over Didsbury CC 5th XI. Charlie Locker was the standout batter with a fantastic 46, with Captain Ankush's 27 a welcome addition as Urmston posted 140-9 from their 40 overs. Didsbury were bowled out for 82 in reply, with Jake McGinlay, Sohan Kanda & Arthur Mitten sharing the honours with 3 wickets each.

Sohan Kanda also took two catches, with further catches from Murugesh Devaramani, Ankush Dadwal, George Stead and Sunny Ghosh rounding off a strong fielding display.

Under 11s complete the weekend in style

The weekend closed out with the Under 11s thumping Lindow Lightning by 100 runs. Zayn Omair Alam (28 retired not out), Veyahn Poluri (27 retired not out) and Ruben Pickering (27 retired not out) all shone with the bat as Urmston racked up 136-2 from their 20 overs. Lindow were skittled for just 36 in reply, with Oliver Faloona the pick of the bowlers on 3 wickets, and catches taken by Casper Barton and Ruben Pickering.

A brilliant way to send the youngsters into the new week.
