First XI v Port Sunlight CC | Saturday 2 May | Won Urmston CC 266/8 (50 overs) beat Port Sunlight CC 187 all out (39.2 overs)

A commanding start from James Bashford's side, who posted a formidable 266 for 8 before bowling Port Sunlight out for 187 to seal a 79-run win.

Salman Hanif was the standout with 71, well supported by Umar Munawar's composed 45. The visitors never looked like mounting a serious chase and were dismissed inside 40 overs.

Second XI v Port Sunlight CC | Saturday 2 May | Won

Urmston CC 135/3 (33 overs) beat Port Sunlight CC 131/9 (33.3 overs)

Duncan Hood's side made it a Port Sunlight double with a controlled seven-wicket chase. Chris Turner was outstanding, finishing unbeaten on 63. Tom Pratt (25) and Duncan Hood (22) gave the innings a solid platform at the top.

With the ball, Josh Blackie was tidy with figures of 8-1-29-1 (economy 3.6), and Jonathan Hughes took two wickets in 13 overs to keep Port Sunlight's total well within range.

It is worth noting that Port Sunlight were reduced to ten men through availability issues. Captain Hood offered an honest and measured reflection:

"Good to get started, even if it came a little later than we'd hoped. Enjoy the win, it's always important to recognise the positives, but let's aim to raise our standards again next week. The opposition were affected by availability and were reduced to 10 men, so we should keep that context in mind. We'll need to be more clinical and maintain our focus, rather than getting carried away with the result.

Credit to Port Sunlight, they're a great group who played the game in the right spirit, and I hope they bounce back strongly. Well done again, but let's treat this as a solid first step and keep building from here."

Third XI v Heaton Mersey Village CC | Saturday 2 May | Won

Heaton Mersey Village CC 195/8 (40 overs), Urmston CC 199/2 (27.4 overs)

Arguably the performance of the weekend. Chasing 196, Pyush Anand's side wrapped it up with more than 12 overs to spare, winning by eight wickets.

George Holmes led the way with a brilliant 70. Vignesh Parameswari followed with 51 not out, and Omair Mohammed added 36 not out as the chase was completed in style.

In the field, Jake McGinlay was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 10-0-30-2 (economy 3.0), and Soloman Hussain was equally impressive, conceding only 29 runs from 10 overs.

Fourth XI v Didsbury CC | Sunday 3 May | Lost

Urmston CC 142/9 (40 overs), Didsbury CC 146/4 (29.2 overs)

A narrow defeat to Didsbury that felt like a game that got away. Charlie Locker top scored with an unbeaten 30 and George Holmes contributed 28, but Ankush Dadhwal's side could not quite find the innings to post a competitive total.

The bowling, though, deserves real credit. Harry Smith (4-0-8-2), Shaun Bosworth (10-2-24-2) and Isaac Jones (8-2-20-2) all bowled with discipline and pace, each finishing well under 3.0 economy. With another 20 runs on the board, it could easily have been a different story.

Under 11s v Sale Panthers | Sunday 3 May | Won

Urmston CC 139/2 (20 overs) beat Sale CC 59 all out (15.3 overs)

A superb outing for the youngest side at the club. Captained by Veyahn Poluri, the Under 11s posted 139 for 2, with Bhavnoor Singh top scoring on 28. Several retirements across the innings point to a squad with depth and real promise.

In reply, Sale Panthers were bowled out for 59 inside 16 overs, with Poluri taking two wickets in an impressive spell.

An encouraging start for a group who will have plenty of Urmston supporters watching with pride as the season unfolds.

Fourth XI v Nantwich CC | Monday 4 May | Won (T20)

Urmston CC 136/9 (20 overs) beat Nantwich CC 107/8 (17 overs)

Ankush Dadhwal's side bounced back in their Bank Holiday T20, posting 136 before bowling Nantwich out for 107 in 17 overs.

Jake McGinlay was sharp with the ball again, finishing 2.3-0-9-2 (economy 3.6). Karthik Nadimpalli was equally economical with 3-0-11-1, and Jake McGinley chipped in with two wickets to seal the win.
