It was a weekend of contrasts across the club, with wins to celebrate, a hard-fought defeat to reflect on, and silverware points banked across the junior sections. Here is how every team got on.

Friday 29 May

Under 13s v Brooklands CC (Away)

The Under 13s were edged out in a tight contest on Friday evening. Brooklands posted 131-5 from their 20 overs, and UCC responded with 121-6, falling 10 runs short. Charit Tapal was the standout with the ball, taking 2 wickets from his three overs. With the bat, Veyahn Poluri top-scored with 33, and Raahim Ahmed contributed 19 before being run out.

Under 12s v Stretford CC (Home)

The Under 12s made short work of Stretford's total of 82-8, knocking off the runs in just 14.4 overs to win by 8 wickets. Caspar Barton was not out on 43 and Ted Teasdale unbeaten on 21 as UCC cruised home. Inchara Swamy was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets.

Saturday 30 May

1st XI v Bowdon CC (Away)

James Bashford's side faced a stiff challenge at Bowdon, who posted a formidable 249-8 from their 50 overs. UCC gave a good account of themselves in reply but were bowled out for 203 in 44.4 overs, losing by 46 runs. David Dempster was the batting highlight, making 59 from 106 balls. Adi Manesh contributed 55, and Irfan Naseri made a composed 42. With the ball, James Bashford took 2 wickets from his 9 overs.

2nd XI v Cheadle Hulme CC (Home)

Duncan Hood's side produced a commanding all-round display to defeat Cheadle Hulme by 24 runs. UCC lost the toss on what Duncan described as "a cracking batting surface," but made it count when it mattered.

With regular bowling opener Will Darby carrying an injury and unable to bowl, he was pushed up to open the batting, and the change paid immediate dividends. "He got us off to our best start of the season," said Duncan, "well supported by youngster Chris Turner and Nikhil George," as UCC posted 245 all out from 47.1 overs. Nikhil George led the way with 67, Chris Turner made 58, and Darby contributed 54.

What followed was a disciplined bowling and fielding effort on a hot afternoon. "It was a case of contain, contain, contain," Duncan reflected, "and all of our bowlers did exactly that on a very uncomfortable day for fielding. Tempers flared at times because of the heat, but we held our nerve and got over the line." Syed Adnan Bukhari was the pick of the attack, taking 3 wickets from 12 overs, as Cheadle Hulme were bowled out for 221 in 47.3 overs.

3rd XI v Mobberley CC

The 3rd XI were awarded a walkover after Mobberley were unable to field a side due to poor availability. The points are gratefully received. Pyush Anand's team collect 19 points and sit comfortably in second place in the league. "The next few matches will be crucial for us," said Pyush, "to stay in the top two and get ahead of the other teams in the league."

Sunday 31 May

4th XI v Stockport Georgians CC (Home)

The 4th XI turned in one of the performances of the weekend, chasing down Stockport Georgians' 168-9 with remarkable ease. Yuvaraj Mohan contributed 66 before being dismissed, and captain Pyush Anand came in to finish the job, ending unbeaten on 17 as UCC reached their target of 172-1 from just 18.2 overs, winning by 9 wickets.

Captain Ankush Dadhwal was full of praise for his side. "Brilliant overall performance from the team in bowling and fielding," he said. "With 168 to chase, our opening pair made it look easy. Both George and Yuvaraj played excellently to chase the total in 18 overs. Well done all involved."

A competitive afternoon at Hale Barns ended in a narrow defeat for the 5th XI. UCC posted 186-6 from their 40 overs, with Gavin Dean retiring not out on 61 and David Stubbs contributing 52. "The 5s hit a good score of over 180," said David, "but it was chased down by Hale Barns, winning by 3 wickets and a handful of overs to spare."

There were bright spots beyond the scoreline. Two players from the Under 13s made their senior debuts in the match.
